Apshawa Preserve / Gregg's Birthday Hike

For Gregg's birthday weekend (since he was working on his actual birthday), we really wanted to get out of the hot, humid city and see some greenery. After some research we found a nice little hike out in New Jersey and decided to head out to the "country" for the afternoon.

Only about an hour out of NYC

So green! And so quiet...

Tree roots plucking a boulder out of the ground on the way down

We found "ruins" all over the place

Small waterfalls = perfect picnic spot

This fat toad was the size of a fist!

Not much of a view from the top but pretty regardless

Flipped car from the 50s, with bullet holes!

 Bootleggers?!

 Probably not. Old tires everywhere.

Made it to the lake!

 Guess we're not going swimming...

Recreating an old favorite from our Maui trip (2013)

Classic Brad Irving photo op, teetering on a plank to get the shot

The scenery changed fast and often

Gregg's worst nightmare: vicious gang of turkeys on the loose!

It had been way too long, hiking is fun!

Capped the day off with dinner at the local top sushi restaurant, Ki Sushi. It was a fun and memorable birthday celebration!
