Sorry for such a long delay between posts. Gregg was on Trauma rotation for 2 months and getting out to explore was difficult with days off being few and far between.
That's not to say it hasn't been a great summer though! We've enjoyed every minute of sunshine and warm summer nights during this record stretch of 60 straight days above 80 degrees. We were able to pull some skilled scheduling maneuvers and made it out to CA for our good friend Andrew's wedding in Napa in August and were able to catch up with a lot of our old crew.
We've also been lucky enough to have a few visitors come to NYC! Kyle had some business out in New Jersey and was able to spend the weekend with us in mid-July. Gregg happened to be transitioning from day to night shifts the Thursday that Kyle finished up work so we got to take Kyle to one of our absolute favorite spots,
Alma!
| Alma has a great Mexican menu and a stellar rooftop eating area with a beautiful Manhattan backdrop. We lucked out and got seated just before an amazing sunset. The picture doesn't begin to do it justice! |
With Gregg starting his next shift at 6:30pm on Friday night, he and Kyle got to have some dude time while Meg was at work. And what better way to spend dude time than to go for a run along the
West Side Highway then cab to Midtown and meet Meg for lunch?!

| Cheesin' after some halal guys. Best "street meat" in NYC ;) |
Saturday was part of the annual
Summer Streets event in Manhattan that we enjoyed so much last year so we decided to show Kyle this unique City experience.
| Loving our second go-round of Summer Streets, standing on the bridge in front of Grand Central Terminal |
| It looks so much smaller with the other buildings in perspective! |
| Working our way down and checking sights off the list |
| Walked from 42nd St subway station to the 2nd Ave station (42 blocks!) and passed by the famous "Bay Area bar", Finnerty's, along the way. Go Giants! |
| After Gregg went to work, Kyle and Meg enjoyed some sushi at Hibino then dessert/after dinner treats at Pair. |
| Cheers! |
Sunday morning we squeezed in one more meal before Kyle had to head to the airport. What better way to cap off a weekend than brunch?
| In Park Slope at a spot we'd wanted to try called Hugo and Sons. We'll definitely be going back! |
Later in August, one of Gregg's good college buddies and groomsmen, Jack, had finally convinced his company to send someone out to the East Coast to do some site visits, and the timing couldn't have been better. Through more shrewd negotiating and tactful scheduling wizardry, Gregg got the entire Saturday off from work.
| The day started off in the backyard with a lot of catching up while enjoying another gorgeous summer morning. After we had worked up an appetite we went to a local spot we've been meaning to try, White Oak, for a late brunch. |
After brunch it was time to head to Manhattan and get the full Finnerty's experience. In 14 months in Brooklyn we had yet to watch a Bay Area game at the bar and decided that needed to change. The Giants were playing (at the time) a meaningful game against the Pirates and for a regular season Saturday afternoon game, the place was electric!
| Bochy wondering why everyone on the team has the injury bug |
| Couple of die-hard Giants fans checking Finnerty's off the bucket list |
Another 1-run heartbreaker and we were back out on the town and decided on
McSorley's, one of the oldest pubs in the City, for a few house beers.
| Light and Dark are your two options. Equally refreshing! |
| Some familiar letters from our days at Cal above our table: DKE |
We finished up the day with dinner at
Huertas, enjoying Basque cuisine and more carefree conversation. Another great visit!
