Sleepy Hollow

With Fall quickly descending on New York and Halloween decorations popping up in our neighborhood, Gregg was shocked to find out that Sleepy Hollow is not only a real place but is only an hour and fifteen minute drive from our apartment! On a rainy Sunday in early October we hopped in the car and headed up the Hudson to the setting of Washington Irving's classic short story, the quaint little town of Sleepy Hollow.

We made our first stop in Tarrytown, just South of Sleepy Hollow, to have some lunch on Main Street.

While the street had many small stores, coffee shops, and restaurants, we chose the Twisted Oak and were very glad we did.

Gregg's duck "lasagna" with egg, creamy polenta, and a Reuben sandwich. Delish!
Next we ventured in to Sleepy Hollow proper and explored a bit before heading into the HUGE cemetery.

An old bare-bones, Puritan-style church on the cemetery, built in 1690.

One of many famous interments at the cemetery, Washington Irving and his family.

The cemetery is over 90 acres! We didn't even come close to seeing it all.

On the way home, we drove along the Hudson through the numerous "River Towns" and saw some great Fall views.

On a pier off a riverfront park in Dobbs Ferry, you could see Manhattan in the distance. It's amazing you can be so close to the City but feel so far away.

It was a fun day out in the "Country" and a great way to usher in Fall. Looking forward to Halloween!
