Colorado Ski Trip

Last Spring, after our good friend Andrew moved out to Colorado and bought his first home, we made plans to visit and ski with him.  Flights were booked and plans were made BUT Gregg got a call for an interview for residency in New York and the trip was scrapped.  At the start of this year, Gregg was given the last week of February as vacation time so we decided we'd revisit the Colorado trip idea.  Andrew was of course on board as were a few of our California skiing buddies and the group decided on Copper Mountain as our destination.

Chasing the sun as we fly in to Denver.  It just so happens that Denver broke its record for most snowfall in February, a good sign for skiers :)

Union Station almost ready to open for a new rail line directly to DIA from downtown

The original Union Station itself has been recently renovated and repurposed. The building now contains the Crawford Hotel, shops, restaurants, and the awesome Terminal Bar

Great first day on the slopes!

Got chilly on the way to the back bowls

Shive coming in clutch with the surprise brewskis.  Our jello legs really needed the pick me up by the end of the second day.
We stayed another night on the mountain before heading home.  Little did we know that NYC was getting hammered by a March snowstorm of its own.  We circled the runway for 20 minutes after the flight ahead of us skidded a bit on landing so crews were sent to bring the runway back to "acceptable braking standards". Luckily, our pilots were top-tier aces and we got on the ground with only minor wobbles, skids, and shrieks in the cabin.

We were the only flight to land from Denver that day and one of Gregg's co-residents was diverted to Syracuse for the night after they closed LGA to arrivals.  Lucky us!

We didn't realize just how lucky we were until this happened just 4 days later during the latest storm.  No more winter flights for us!
