Alma, Columbia Waterfront

Alma, Columbia Waterfront

Come for the gorgeous views of Downtown Manhattan and enjoy a fabulous meal on the roof!  Best part is it is only two blocks from our apt!

On our first visit, Gregg enjoyed the pork enchiladas with pepper jack cheese and spicy enchilada sauce.  Meg had the chilaquilles (obviously), came with shredded chicken and a TON of cheese.  We had the salsa sampler, but wouldn't recommend since they serve you complimentary chips and salsa and that one is better than the four samplers.

Second visit with Gregg's parents and we had the guacamole to start.  Great size for the four of us and very tasty.  Gregg had the pork butt tacos with delicious hint of pineapple, Brad got the enchiladas (what Gregg had earlier in the week), Kelly had the shrimp fajitas and Meg had chicken fajitas.  Very large portions :) and a great night out!

Moo Burger, Cobble Hill

June 16, 2014
MooBurger, Cobble Hill

Having nothing to cook and nothing to cook it with, we ventured out for our first meal in our new neighborhood.  And we didn't need to go far.  Combining the extensive menu options and sit down experience of Barney's with the flavors and gourmet combinations of Roam, Mooburger was a great introduction to the thriving NYC burger culture.  It was tough to decide what to order with so many appealing combos but at least there's more to try when we go back (soon, I'm sure). We asked to try each of the interesting array of sauces to add even more flavor diversity to our burgers and they were definitely worth a try.  Bonus for celebrity sighting on our first visit (Keri Russell and her family, who is a regular according to our waitress).

Our Apartment - Moving in

June 16, 2014

We landed at JFK from SFO in the late afternoon and lugged our 3 suitcases out of the airport.  It was 84 degrees and humid, our insulated jackets got stowed away quickly and we kicked ourselves for not wearing shorts.  The cabbie asked us where we were headed and we said, "135 Kane Street", our new home, a place we had yet to see with our own eyes.  We looked at each other and thought, "Here we go..."
Our Street.
We had been out in May and scouted out the neighborhoods so we at least knew what to expect from the area.  It didn't disappoint.
Our Apartment.
So many thoughts and nerves running through our heads as we walked up the stoop to key in to our new place for the first time!

And we love it!
The first afternoon, none of our furniture is in yet.  Meg found this bookshelf at the unofficial urban furniture recycling program (dumped on the curb outside) and it was in good shape so we snagged it.  The "program" would come in handy when we needed to unload a few things later on.

Thankfully the U-Haul pods finally arrived that weekend and we upgraded to a real bed for the first time in 2 weeks.

We apparently have too much stuff.  Had to make a few tough choices to make some room but everything we did sacrifice went to a good home (we think, it lasted less than an hour on the curb before vanishing).

After a LOT of help from Brad & Kelly, we're almost done!
It's a work in progress at this point but we're so happy to be in Brooklyn!

First Post!

Welcome to our blog!

Finally got around to making this but better late than never! As you know, we left our beloved San Francisco behind for a new chapter on the opposite side of the country.  We both love exploring new neighborhoods and restaurants so we're eager to get out there and see what this amazing place has to offer.  BUT, with a city as big and diverse as NYC, it's easy to lose track of what you've done and where you've been.  SO, the purpose of this blog is to help us catalog our adventures in this crazy new life of ours in Brooklyn.  We invite you to read on if you're interested!

Enjoy!
